EUDR Readiness Check

Updated · 1 min read · By the akar.earth specialist team

Free EUDR readiness check: answer eight questions about one commodity flow and see your readiness score and the gaps to close before the EUDR applies.

Answer for one commodity flow you export to the EU (or sell to an EU exporter).

Do you know every plot (farm) that supplies this product?
Do you hold geolocation for every plot (a polygon for plots over 4 ha)?
Have you checked each plot for deforestation after 31 December 2020?
Can you show the land use is legal under Indonesian law?
Is product from verified plots kept separate from unverified product?
Do you keep records for at least five years?
Are smallholders registered with consent to share their data?
Can you pass this data to your EU buyer in a usable format?

The EUDR readiness check scores how prepared one of your commodity flows is for the EU Deforestation Regulation, using eight yes-or-no questions, and lists the gaps you need to close. It is built for Indonesian and Southeast Asian suppliers of palm oil, coffee, cocoa, rubber and wood.

Method

Each question covers one building block of EUDR due diligence under Regulation (EU) 2023/1115:

  1. Knowing every supplying plot.
  2. Holding geolocation, with polygons for plots over 4 ha (except cattle).
  3. Checking each plot for deforestation after the 31 December 2020 cut-off.
  4. Showing production is legal under Indonesian law.
  5. Keeping verified product separate. Mass balance is not accepted.
  6. Keeping records for at least five years.
  7. Registering smallholders with consent.
  8. Passing data to the EU buyer in a usable format.

Each “Yes” counts equally. The score is the share of “Yes” answers: 88% or more is “largely ready”, 50% to 87% “partly ready”, below 50% “not ready yet”. “No / not sure” counts as a gap.

Assumptions and limitations

  • All eight blocks are weighted equally, although missing plot data or deforestation checks are usually harder to fix than record keeping.
  • It does not assess risk level, country benchmarking or the operator’s own risk mitigation.
  • It does not check the quality of your evidence, only whether it exists.
  • It is not legal advice.

How to read the result

Start with the gaps listed in order. Supply-base mapping and plot geolocation usually come first, because every other step depends on them. If you are “partly ready”, check whether your existing data covers all suppliers, including those reaching you through collectors. Then see what the operator’s due diligence statement needs from you. Our EUDR compliance service and AKAR Eligibility can close mapping and deforestation-check gaps. For background, see the EUDR hub.

Frequently asked questions

Who should use the EUDR readiness check?

Indonesian exporters, processors, cooperatives and traders selling palm oil, coffee, cocoa, rubber or wood to the EU or to EU-bound buyers. Answer for one commodity flow at a time.

Does a high score mean I am compliant?

No. The check covers the main building blocks of due diligence, not every legal requirement. Compliance is judged on your actual evidence and the operator's due diligence statement.

When does the EUDR apply?

The European Commission states that it applies from 30 December 2026. Check the Commission's EUDR page for later changes, especially for micro and small operators.
