Carbon project consultancy in Indonesia: feasibility, modelling, PDDs, dMRV, field data, EUDR compliance and regulatory navigation from one specialist team.

akar.earth is a carbon project consultancy based in Bali that covers the full project lifecycle in Indonesia and Southeast Asia: feasibility, strategy, modelling, documentation, validation support, field data, dMRV and EUDR compliance. You work directly with the specialist doing the analysis, backed by our own field methods and the AKAR tool suite.

Who we work with

Our clients are organisations that need a land-sector carbon or compliance answer they can defend:

  • Landowners and licence holders (PBPH, HGU, social forestry groups) asking whether their land can carry a carbon project.
  • Project developers running ARR, REDD+, blue carbon, agroforestry or soil carbon projects who need technical capacity without a large in-house team.
  • Commodity exporters and traders in palm oil, coffee, cocoa, rubber and wood facing the EU Deforestation Regulation.
  • Corporate sustainability teams and investors who buy, finance or claim credits and need independent checks.
  • Government and NGO staff who need training or technical input on Indonesian carbon rules.

How the services fit the project lifecycle

A forest carbon project moves through predictable stages. Each of our services maps to one or more of them, so you can bring us in at the point where you are stuck. See the carbon project lifecycle guide for the full sequence.

StageQuestion you are answeringService
ScreeningIs this land eligible, and for which project type?Feasibility and eligibility
StrategyShould we build, buy, inset or wait?Carbon and nature strategy
ModellingHow many credits, over what period, with what risk?Ex-ante and DNDC modelling
DocumentationCan we write a PDD a validation body will accept?PDD development
AuditHow do we get through validation and verification?Validation and verification support
DataWhere do the plot, RTK and drone data come from?Field data campaigns
MonitoringHow do we keep measuring for every monitoring period?dMRV implementation

Alongside the lifecycle we run EUDR compliance and traceability, Indonesian regulatory navigation, carbon credit due diligence, biodiversity valuation and training.

What makes the work different

Field data behind the numbers. Remote sensing is now widely available. What still separates a defensible carbon estimate from a guess is calibrated ground data: permanent plots, RTK-surveyed boundaries and drone imagery checked against satellite layers. We design and run that fieldwork ourselves.

Our own tools. Screening, carbon scenarios, monitoring and mapping run on the AKAR suite, so results are reproducible and the data can move from one stage to the next without being rebuilt.

Specialists amplified by AI. We use AI agents for drafting, calculation checks and literature work. A named specialist reviews every output before it reaches you. This lets a small senior team cover more ground without cutting review steps.

One dataset, two markets. Many Indonesian landscapes produce both carbon and EUDR-regulated commodities. Plot polygons, land-cover history and farmer registration can serve both. We design data collection so it is reusable, so the same field visit can support a carbon project and a due diligence statement.

How an engagement works

  1. First message. You tell us the location, area, land type and the decision you face.
  2. Scoping call. We confirm what you need, what data exists and what is out of scope.
  3. Written scope. A short proposal with deliverables, timeline and what you need to provide.
  4. Delivery. Work proceeds in checkpoints, with draft outputs shared early.
  5. Handover. You receive the files, data and a walkthrough. Follow-on support is optional.

We do not publish prices because scope varies so much with area, data quality and standard. A first conversation costs nothing.

Frequently asked questions

What does a carbon project consultancy in Indonesia do?

It helps landowners, companies and developers decide whether a forest, mangrove or agroforestry project is viable, then builds the evidence, models and documents a standard and a validation body will accept. Good consultancies also handle Indonesian rules such as SRUK recording and Permenhut 6/2026.

Do you only work in Indonesia?

Our base is Bali and most of our work is in Indonesia, but we also support projects and supply chains elsewhere in Southeast Asia where the same methodologies and EUDR rules apply.

Can we hire you for a single piece of work?

Yes. Most engagements start with one defined deliverable, such as an eligibility screen, a due diligence memo or an EUDR gap assessment. You do not need to commit to the whole project lifecycle.

How do we start?

Message us on WhatsApp with the location, approximate area, land type and what decision you need to make. We reply with questions or a short scope.
