The AKAR Tool Suite
AKAR carbon software for forest and land projects: eligibility screening, carbon simulation, dMRV, dashboards and drone mapping in one connected suite.
AKAR is the akar.earth software suite for forest carbon, nature and deforestation-free supply-chain projects in Indonesia and Southeast Asia. Its five tools cover the project lifecycle from land screening to monitoring: Eligibility, Carbon Simulator, dMRV, Dashboard and Mapper. Our specialists use AKAR in every engagement, and clients can use it directly on request.
The five tools
| Tool | What it does | Typical stage |
|---|---|---|
| AKAR Eligibility | Satellite land-cover history, change detection and eligibility screening per methodology | Screening, due diligence, EUDR checks |
| AKAR Carbon Simulator | Ex-ante biomass growth and credit scenarios | Feasibility, PDD, investment |
| AKAR dMRV | Field data capture, per-plot and per-tree records, traceable calculations | Baseline, monitoring, verification |
| AKAR Dashboard | Portfolio view of planting, survival, monitoring and compliance status | Operations, reporting |
| AKAR Mapper | Drone mapping, orthomosaics, 3D and canopy layers, boundary capture | Field campaigns, audits |
Why a connected suite
Most land-sector projects lose time and accuracy at handovers. The boundary used in the feasibility study differs from the one in the PDD. Plot data is re-typed from paper into spreadsheets. Satellite checks are run once and never repeated. Each handover adds errors that auditors later find.
AKAR keeps the same core objects, boundaries, strata, plots, trees, farmers and results, across all five tools. A boundary drawn in Mapper is the one Eligibility screens, the Simulator models and dMRV monitors. That continuity is what makes a dMRV data pipeline auditable.
Built around field data
Satellite monitoring is now widely available. What makes carbon numbers credible is calibration against good ground data: plots placed by a sampling design, relocated precisely with RTK GNSS, and measured with consistent protocols. AKAR is built around that field layer, so remote sensing outputs can be checked against measured plots rather than taken on trust. See ground truth versus satellite for why this matters.
Who uses it
- Project developers running ARR, agroforestry, mangrove or REDD+ projects.
- Commodity exporters and cooperatives mapping supplier plots for the EUDR.
- Investors and buyers who want independent screening of land and projects.
- Programmes and NGOs that need consistent data across many smallholders.
Methods and standards
AKAR implements published methods: IPCC defaults where no better data exists, published allometric equations such as Chave et al. (2014), and methodology rules such as those in VM0047 for ARR. It does not certify anything. Validation and verification remain the job of accredited bodies; AKAR helps you give them clean, traceable evidence.
AI in the workflow
Some AKAR functions use machine learning, for example to classify imagery or flag outlier measurements. We treat these as aids, not answers. Flags are reviewed by a person, and the underlying data stays available for inspection.
Access
AKAR is available through a demo request. We walk through the tools on your boundary or sample data, then agree how you want to use them: as part of a service engagement such as dMRV implementation, or with direct access for your team.
To start, try the free project eligibility quiz, read the dMRV hub, and message us with your project type and the tool you are interested in.
Frequently asked questions
What is AKAR?
AKAR is akar.earth's software suite for land-sector carbon and supply-chain projects. It has five tools: Eligibility, Carbon Simulator, dMRV, Dashboard and Mapper, covering screening, modelling, field monitoring, reporting and drone mapping.
Can I use one AKAR tool without the others?
Yes. Each tool works on its own. They are designed to share boundaries, plots and results, so data does not have to be rebuilt when a project moves to the next stage.
How do I get access?
Access is by demo request. Message us with your project type and what you want to do, and we set up a walkthrough on your own boundary or sample data.
Is AKAR only for carbon projects?
No. The same plot mapping, farmer registration and land-cover checks support EUDR due diligence for palm oil, coffee, cocoa, rubber and wood supply chains.
AKAR tools
- AKAR Carbon Simulator: Ex-Ante Carbon Scenarios
AKAR Carbon Simulator models ex-ante carbon scenarios for ARR, agroforestry and mangrove projects: growth, survival, deductions and credit timing.
- AKAR Dashboard: Portfolio and Compliance View
AKAR Dashboard gives a portfolio view of planting, survival, monitoring and EUDR compliance status across carbon projects and supplier plots.
- AKAR dMRV: Field-to-Registry Monitoring
AKAR dMRV captures per-plot and per-tree field data with GPS, photos and timestamps, and turns it into traceable monitoring results for verification.
- AKAR Eligibility: Land Eligibility Screening
AKAR Eligibility screens land for carbon project and EUDR eligibility using satellite land-cover history, change detection and methodology rules.
- AKAR Mapper: Drone and Boundary Mapping
AKAR Mapper turns drone flights and RTK surveys into orthomosaics, canopy height models and auditable boundary layers for carbon and EUDR work.
