SRUK: Definition
What is SRUK (Sistem Registri Unit Karbon)? Indonesia's carbon unit registry that replaces SRN-PPI for tradable units, and what it means for projects.
SRUK (Sistem Registri Unit Karbon, the Carbon Unit Registry System) is Indonesia’s national registry for carbon units. Carbon units traded on the Indonesian carbon exchange must be recorded in SRUK, which replaces the registration role of SRN-PPI in the carbon trading framework.
Why it matters
A unit that is not in the national registry cannot be traded on IDXCarbon, and recording is central to avoiding double counting with Indonesia’s NDC. For project developers, SRUK is where domestic carbon units are issued, transferred and retired, and where links to international standards will be made.
How it works
- Secondary sources report that a ministerial regulation on SRUK (Permen LH/BPLH 10/2026) took effect on 6 July 2026 and that the government launched SRUK on 9 July 2026. Check official sources for the current text.
- SRUK tracks units from issuance through transfer to use or retirement. It is a registry, not a trading venue.
- Trading takes place through the carbon exchange or direct trading, with records integrated with SRUK.
- POJK 10/2026 allowed a transition in which the exchange could facilitate trading of units recorded in ministry electronic systems for a limited period until SRUK was operating.
- Rules also address self-recording of units from international standards where data interoperability is not yet in place.

Indonesia and Southeast Asia angle
Projects certified under Verra, Gold Standard or Plan Vivo that operate in Indonesia need to understand how their units relate to SRUK, especially for domestic sale or international transfer with authorisation. Forestry projects under Permenhut 6/2026 also use SRUK, with transitional use of the Ministry of Forestry’s electronic system. See SRUK vs Verra registry.
Common mistakes
- Calling SRUK an exchange.
- Assuming SRN-PPI registration automatically carries over.
- Ignoring transitional rules and dates.
- Recording units in SRUK without checking whether the same tonnes are already issued under an international standard.

Do units on IDXCarbon have to be in SRUK?
