SRN-PPI: Definition

Updated · 1 min read · By the akar.earth specialist team

What is SRN-PPI? Indonesia's national climate change registry, its role in carbon trading before SRUK, and what projects need to know about the transition.

SRN-PPI (Sistem Registri Nasional Pengendalian Perubahan Iklim, the National Registry System for Climate Change Control) is Indonesia’s national registry for climate change mitigation and adaptation actions, run by the environment ministry. Until 2026 it was also the registry where carbon units traded on IDXCarbon were recorded; that role has passed to SRUK.

Why it matters

SRN-PPI was the anchor for national tracking of climate actions and carbon units under the NEK framework. Units listed on IDXCarbon, including PTBAE-PU allowances and SPE-GRK offsets, had to be recorded there, and the exchange was connected to it for transfers. Developers with existing registrations need to understand how their records relate to the new system.

How it works now

  • Exchange-traded carbon units must now be recorded in SRUK, which replaces SRN-PPI’s registration function for trading.
  • Secondary sources describe SRN-PPI as continuing to support management of climate action information, while SRUK focuses on recording carbon units.
  • Transitional provisions allowed trading of units recorded in ministry electronic systems for a limited period until SRUK became operational.

Indonesia and Southeast Asia angle

Many existing Indonesian mitigation actions, including forestry and energy projects, were registered in SRN-PPI to demonstrate alignment with the NDC and to qualify for domestic trading. Under the 2025–2026 reforms led by Perpres 110/2025 and POJK 10/2026, those projects should confirm their status in SRUK before trading or transferring units. Rules have changed quickly, so check primary texts.

Projects should keep copies of past SRN-PPI records, registration numbers and approvals, because they may be needed to show history when moving to SRUK.

Common mistakes

  • Treating SRN-PPI and SRUK as the same system.
  • Assuming an SRN-PPI listing is enough for exchange trading after 2026.
  • Relying on old guidance that predates the SRUK launch.
